With this in mind Axminster are now offering thier very popular K10 model without the jaws with a considerable cost saving. Of course it is still the same superb quality chuck made here in Axminster offering some unique work holding solutions to woodturners. Manufactured in Axminster Huge Capacity 150mm Very positive secure grip onto the work pieceFor those of you who wish to turn very large hollow forms and big bowls and platters, we have introduced the Colossus Gripper Jaws. Based on the well established design of our very popular G type gripper jaws but offering a greatly increased work holding capacity for very large projects. The jaws will expand into a 150mm(6") dovetailed recess or grip onto a spigot of approximately 125mm(5") in diameter. Perfect for those large unseasoned logs you may want to turn into objet d'art.

These are second generation spigot jaws with an enhanced grip which have been designed to cope better with the problems of firmly gripping green wood. Similar to a pin chuck, a hole is bored (30mm hole 50mm deep) into the log or blank and the chuck jaws inserted to the full depth (it is essential to ensure that the whole length of the jaw is inserted to avoid over-stressing and damaging the jaws). The jaws are then opened to give a firm grip on the blank. Should the grip loosen during work then another tweak on the key will re-establish the grip.

So called because they use eight conical rubber buttons to securely pull back work onto the jaws. Manufactured of quality dural and machined to mount directly onto the standard accessory jaws, the button jaws are intended for use with bowls up to 9 in diameter. They are, however, unsuitable for bowls with a very fine edge as the point pressure will deform the edge of the bowl. To hold large or thin edge bowls use the wood jaw plates as detailed on this page fixing four quadrants of timber to the jaws and turning a recess to exactly match the outer diameter of the bowl to be finished. Using the button jaws, however, on thicker bowels or more substantial work will quickly provide an accurate way to hold and finish endless projects without marking or damaging the work in any way. The buttons are white rubber so as not to mark a workpiece and are dovetailed to hold the workpiece firmly against the plates. There is also a provision for the holding of slightly irregular pieces by the addition of a slot in each quadrant. Buttons are available separately.

Precision made using CNC production techniquesRadiused corners to minimise the chances of injury during useSuitable for use with all Axminster chucks and jawsThese accessory mounting jaws are unrivalled for quality and precision. A unique feature of these jaws is that if extended beyond the body of the chuck, the edges have been modified with a slight radius to minimise the chance of injury should hands get too close to the rotating chuck during use. Now supplied as standard with all the Axminster chuck range, a set of these for each of your additional jaw sets will make the swapping of jaws much faster and more efficient.
