The ProEdge is the latest innovative product to come from Robert Sorby. It takes all the guesswork and effort out of sharpening all your woodworking tools bench, framing, carving and turning chisels, drill bits and plane irons as well as knives and garden tools.
The ProEdge requires no complex assembly it can be plugged in and used straight from the box.

One of the great challenges facing any woodworker is keeping a consistent bevel angle on their tools. With the ProEdge nothing is left to chance. The patented angle setter ensures that the same angle is achieved time after time. It incorporates a pre-set of all the most popular bevel angles – 90º, 80º, 60º, 45º, 35º, 30º, 25º, 20º, 15º.
This is a strong well engineered unit which can be located anywhere in the workshop.
As the ProEdge largely replicates the tool sharpening system in the Robert Sorby factory it is not only tried and tested over many decades, it is also highly efficient and safe. Sharpening is carried out by means of a series of inexpensive abrasive belts - aluminium oxide for bench and carving chisels, knives and plane irons; zirconium for HSS turning tools, drill and router bits: ceramic for rapid heavy duty sharpening.

Any changing of belts is a simple, straightforward task. Because of the composition of each belt, sharpening is extremely rapid and yet there is a professional, high quality finish. As the sharpening operation is quick, there is
no fear of over-heating and consequently damaging the tools.

To make sharpening even more accurate there is a series of accessories which can be fitted to
the ProEdge:
• a skew jig to give the correct presentation angle of turners’ skew chisels
• a square jig for presenting square tools at 90 degrees to the sharpening belt
• a gouge jig in the format of a vee block to prevent pivoting when sharpening a turners’ gouge
• a fingernail profiler to create swept back wings on a turners’ gouge
• a cutter holder to accept those small tool tips
• a rubberised honing wheel for the inside of gouges
• a pigtail mandrel, buffing mop and paste to add a highly polished finish to any tool
• a short platform enables easier access for miniature or worn tools
This makes the ProEdge the most efficient, accurate sharpening system around.

The latest new product from Robert Sorby is the Knife Sharpening Jig for the ProEdge Sharpening System.

The jig consists of all parts required to convert a ProEdge, a new back plate, raised wear plate, universal arm and knife holder. The kit includes instructions on fitting and should only take a few minutes to fit onto the ProEdge. It is available in two sizes, with a small knife holder for pocket knifes, carving knifes and blades up to 8" long and with a large knife holder for hunting knifes and blades over 8". The jigs are universal so a customer can buy the other knife holder to enable all sizes to be sharpened. The clamp on the knife holder has three screws, two clamping screws and a jacking screw to enable different thickness of blades to be safely held. The adjustable collar on the arm will allow different bevel angles to be sharpened from a steep angle for a woodcarving knife to a shallow angle for a fish filleting knife.

The first of these (ref. PESKEW) is the answer to most turners' prayer as it is angled at 60 degrees on both sides to give an accurate presentation of a skew chisel to the grinding wheel. This ensures both repeatability and consistency for the one of the tools which causes almost every hobbyist turner a headache.

This is a vee-shaped jig (PEVB) into which is suitable for holding any round tool especially standard profile turning gouges - whether bowl, spindle or roughing - which always represent a challenge to sharpen free hand.

(PESQ) allows presentation of the tool at 90 degrees to the wheel. That makes it ideal for sharpening not only the woodturner's square scrapers but also his parting tools. For the cabinet maker this jig offers the further, very real advantage of ensuring his bench chisels are sharpening in a consistent fashion

Using the long grind jig on the fingernail profiler or the Deluxe Universal sharpening system allows for three different types of profile to be produced on bowl and spindle gouges. It will produce a fingernail profile, a long grind and an extra long grind depending on which location hole the profile arm is used.
It fits onto the bar in replacement of the original fingernail jig that is standard on either of the two sharpening systems and is used in exactly the same way but with the three options.

Achieving the exact bevel angle on any fingernail or long grind gouge has never been easier than with the Robert Sorby Proset.
By placing the gouge into the clamp of the profile arm and then extending the gouge up-to the required stop and locking it into place will allow for precise and repeatable bevel angles to be obtained.

Also available are three new Trizact belts for sharpening and finishing all types of knife. A Trizact structured belt is different to other abrasive belts. Being arranged in an open form the abrasive allows for a rapid cut, with greater resistance to clogging which in turn means much less friction creating a cooler cut and extended belt life. These new belts are also suitable for sharpening high speed steel turning tools and carbon steel edge and carving tools.

Trizact A30 Belt (approx 600 grit). Arranged in a brick pattern to give quick and efficient sharpening from a 240 grit Aluminium Oxide belt.

Trizact A16 Belt (approx 1200 grit). Arranged in a pyramid pattern to give a fine finish from the 600 grit belt.

Trizact A6 Belt (approx 3000 grit). Arranged in a pyramid pattern to give a super fine finish from the 1200 grit belt.


Trizact A30 Belt (approx 600 grit). Arranged in a brick pattern to give quick and efficient sharpening from a 240 grit Aluminium Oxide belt.

Abrasive sharpening belts:
Aluminium Oxide 60, 120 and 240 grit for sharpening bench chisels, carving tools and plane irons.
Zirconium 60 and 120 grit is designed for HSS tools, drills and router bits.
Ceramic 60 and 120 grit is especially hardwearing and long lasting for heavy material removal.
Trizact (brick and pyramid abrasive shaping. ‘Grit’ sizes: 600, 1200, 3000) designed for all steel. The highest level ‘grit’ sharpens to two microns (sharper than a razor blade).

Diamond belt
Diamond belts offer the pinnacle in abrasive technology. Providing both the flexibility of standard cloth belts with the durability and fast cutting action of plated diamond wheels. The diamond particles are precisely graded providing a long life solution for the sharpening of the most difficult of materials. Due to the hardness of the diamond abrasive grain, outstanding results can be achieved with tungsten carbide, ceramic, glass and natural stone and many other resist.
