Woodturner Tracy Owen has won many prizes with his textured bowls. The new Robert Sorby texturing tool allows every woodturner to share his secrets by giving his work that added value and individuality which these effects bring. The texturing tool enables the turner to alter the visual and tactile qualities of a work piece by creating striations, whorls, and orange peel effect and more. Let your imagination run wild. Fitted with an interchangeable cutter, the texturing tool is just as effective on soft wood as hard woods - although the results can be markedly different.

Spiralling.
Creating barley twists, spirals and flutes has always represented a problem for the woodturner. The Spiralling System not only overcomes many of these difficulties, but also allows the turners imagination to run wild as he enters a new field of decoration. Based on the same principle as the texturing tool, it is simple to use even in the hands of a novice - but still comes with instructions and ideas on its further use. The built-in rest allows the work to be approached at a variety of angles - graduations on the rest ensure repeatability. The degree of off-set determines the pitch of the spiral. Another variation is introduced with the addition of 3 different cutters which can be used for texturing. From these the turner can either produce, amongst other work, fine spirals of a delicate goblet or heavy patterns on boxes, spindles or candlesticks.

An excellent tool with one round side and one flat. The straight edge is used for external (Convex) work and the curved edge for internal (Concave) work such as inside platters and bowls. An extremely handy addition to any turners armoury, the Sandmaster is used in conjunction with a lathe to put a fine finish on turned pieces. It eliminates the unsightly lines often associated with traditional hand sanding. As the disc is spinning it also reduces the clogging of the abrasive. The Sandmaster comes complete with a velcro-covered 2” sponge pad which allows for easy changing of abrasive discs. A variety of grits can then be quickly attached. The adjustable head which runs on a durable phosphor bronze bushing lets the turner reach even the more inaccessible spots. As an optional extra a 3” head and discs can be easily fitted for greater efficiency. The Sandmaster becomes an even more versatile tool when the head is removed and replaced by a pigtail mandrel and goblet bowl mop. ProEdge is a revolutionary sharpening system introduced by Robert Sorby. In fact, the concept is far from new as the ProEdge largely replicates the tool sharpening system which has evolved in the Robert Sorby factory over many, many years. This compact system is now available to woodworkers whether operating in a large workshop or small shed.
Central to the ProEdge is an abrasive belt which is a quick and efficient method of putting a keen edge on each and every tool. The cool running belt avoids any overheating. The ProEdge comes complete with aluminium oxide and zirconium belts with a selection of sizes in those materials and ceramic also available.

Belts are the only parts that need to be replaced and can be purchased at a minimal cost.

The system comes with an angle setter which allows the user to accurately locate most of the common sharpening angles required by woodworkers. However, the user can easily set his own angle if he wishes to move away from any of these common pre-set angles - 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 45, 60, 80 and 90 degrees.

The angle setter ensures that the same angle can be achieved accurately time after time. There is no complex setting up involved. In fact, the ProEdge can be used straight out of the box.

The ProEdge is ideal for those who need to sharpen carving tools, bench chisels, framing chisels, turning tools, plane irons, router bits, garden tools and much more.

There are additional attachments to help the turner overcome sharpening difficulties with skew chisels, standard and fingernail profile gouges.

As optional extras honing wheels and buffing mops may be added to give the ProEdge even greater versatility.

There are two models. The ProEdge (ref. PE01A) comes complete with aluminium oxide and zirconium belts handle most jobs. The ProEdge Plus (ref. PED01) also includes a number of further accessories of especial value to the woodturner - a skew chisel jig, a fingernail gouge profiler and a standard gouge jig.

The skew chisel jig, fingernail and standard gouge jigs may also be used along with an attachment table (447JAT) to the Robert Sorby Sharpening System (refs 446 and 447).

For those working with mini or midi tools we have recently introduced a short tool rest (ref. PESPC). This measures 1" (25mm) in length - compared with 2.3/8" (60mm) for the standard rest - thereby allowing the user to sharpen shorter tools without fouling or catching on the rest.
