The head will slide along the bed

The Scheppach dms 1100 woodturning lathe is designed with the committed artisan in mind as well as the professional who requires a machine with an excellent specification at a competitive price. Built of cast iron the dms series lathes are made to last. Powered by a very quiet running, high torque 1 HP induction motor, it gives ten speeds ranging from 500 rpm 2,100 rpm and is therefore ideal for small diameter spindle work through to large bowl turning. Speed selection is made by a conveniently placed lever.

Both the headstock, tailstock and lathe bed are made from solid cast iron which has been accurately machined to allow for smooth movement and minimal levels of vibration. The pivoting headstock turns 360° and locks to facilitate outboard turning. Unique to the scheppach dms series is the clockwise and anticlockwise spindle rotation which offers the advantage of positioning the tool rest to the left or right when swivelling the headstock. The L & R turning facility also produces perfect sanding results on the finished workpiece irrespective of the lay of the wood grain. The tailstock is bored to allow for long hole boring when making table and standard lamps. Fitted with the industry standard 1“ x 8 tpi main spindle, there will never be a need to worry about sourcing a wide range of accessories.

Scheppach dmt450
Continuous quiet turning – the compact dmt 450 lathe from scheppach.

The scheppach dmt 450 is ideal for the hobby woodturner who does not have sufficient dedicated workbench space for his lathe, being small enough to “side“ when not in use. It is also most useful for woodturners who are on the move as it is small enough to transport in the boot of a car.

The powerful 1/2HP induction motor has high torque capacity to allow for turning of heavy timbers without stalling. The precision machined main drive spindle runs on two industrially rated sealed-for-life bearings to maximize support and has a 1“ by 8 tpi thread. The 5 step pulley system with Poly-V belt drive offers a speed range between 650 and 3,000 rpm: speed change being quick and simple. This new scheppach mini lathe has a heavy-duty cast iron bed that ensures stability and minimal vibration.

Distinguished also by its specification, the dmt 450 gives 445 mm between centres and a turning diameter of 254 mm. The tailstock is hollow allowing up to 9 mm long hole boring. This is a well machined lathe that will bring years of turning satisfaction and find a home with many a discerning woodturner. Supplied with tool rest, face plate and revolving centre and a hollow tailstock for long hole boring as standard equipment.
